My time out after New Zealand Ironman is coming to an end, having had 9 weeks off training I have decided it is time to get my act together and focus. Shedding a few extra kilo's that I have put on would be nice as well! I have been using my break wisely, firstly by being a Dad to my son Lewis who was born 27th February, yes 6 days before NZ Ironman. I have been loving every minute of it, every day he is changing and seems to be growing at an unbelievable rate. Secondly, I have also been getting my coaching business up and running which has been keeping me busy. If anyone is interested in my coaching packages please see my coaching page.
In the next week or so I will have my race and coaching schedule finalised for the rest of the year. I have already qualified and entered Hawaii Ironman however I'm still weighing up a couple of other racing options.
Please keep in-touch and follow my progress through this website.

Sorry but it has been a while since my last news entry, I promise to keep it updated now. Last weekend I started the UK Ironman in Sherbourne which is in the South of England, however due to picking up an infection approx 8 days before the race I was unable to finish. I thought I was more or less over being sick before the race but when you are racing some of the best Ironman in the world in a very hard Ironman you have to be at 110% not on antibiotics and recovering. I made it to half way through the run but was pulled out by the medics as I was throwing up and completely exhausted.
Bryan Rhodes (Rhodsey) from New Zealand won the race and to be honest there would not of been any other athlete in the world that would have beaten him that day, he was very very impresive!
I'm now in Edinburgh, Scotland chilling out a bit with my family and will resume training and racing later this week. If I'm feeling up to it I will race the Firth of Forth Scottish triathlon National championships this weekend. As I have not done any races since Ironman New Zealand I need a few shorter races to get back into it. The main focus now is Ironman Hawaii in mid October.
28 August 2005 - Scottish Olympic Distance Championships
Today I felt okay to race the Firth of Forth triathlon which was also the Scottish Olympic Distance Championships. Disregarding last weekend it has been a long time since I have raced and really felt like I needed to go blow some cobwebs out. I felt strong throughout the entire race and ended up winning by 20seconds from the fast running Kevin Clark, see top 5 results below.
1. Stephen Sheldrake 01:58:48
2. Kevin Clark 01:59:08
3. Colin Macpherson 02:07:05
4. Scott Neyedli 02:07:37
5. Stuart Robinson 02:11:24
4 September 2005 - Loch Lomond Olympic Triathlon
To get another race under my belt I decided to race the Loch Lomond triathlon today just outside of Glasgow. I felt good throuhout, probably due to the very little training I have been doing in the past couple of weeks (due to health, better now), and went on to win.
I have decided not to race the UK Half Ironman this weekend and concentrate on getting ready for Hawaii Ironman mid October.
7 October 2005
Well I have just finished off my build up for Hawaii Ironman with two weeks training in San Diego, California. Whilst we have been here the weather has been unbelievable with everyday being sunny and hot making training very easy to get out the door and do. No more hard sessions left it is just a matter of tapering and resting before next weekends race. Thanks all the support I have had this year from family, friends and sponsors hopefully I can pay you all back with a great race.

World 30-34 Age-Group Champion
Below is the press report from the World Championchips today in Hamburg, Germany.
The New Zealand flag flew proudly at the BG World Triathlon Championships in Hamburg overnight with two victories, four podiums and eleven top ten finishes in age group racing. Leading the way with victory in their respective age groups were Tama Christensen (18 to 19) and Stephen Sheldrake (30 to 34). New Plymouth’s Christensen confirmed the huge promise he shows in the sport while Sheldrake backed up from his victory in last season’s Contact Energy National Series, breaking two hours over the technical Hamburg course.
While Triathlon New Zealand toasted everyone’s success, there was a personal touch to Sheldrake’s victory as he is employed by Tri NZ as U23 High Performance and Junior Manager. Recent results confirm however he has not lost the competitive streak or the ability to match it with the best in the world in his age group. Others to podium included another of the promising crop of youngsters coming through the sport in Andrew Curtayne. The Aucklander was only just pipped for gold in the 20 to 24 age category, finishing in an impressive time of 1:58:21, the best of any New Zealander in the age group races. Katherine Anton was the best of the women, finishing second in her 30 to 34 age category, brining home her race with an impressive 38 minute split in the 10km run leg.
